Critical Drift is a drift racing game on Japanese mountain roads. Real handling, volumetric tyre smoke, and a valley pass you can drive by day, at sunset or at night.
Critical Drift is about one thing: getting a car sideways through a corner and holding it there. The road is narrow, the guardrail is close and the valley drops away on the other side.
The handling is built around weight transfer, tyre heat and throttle control. You start a drift with a flick or the handbrake and steer it with the pedal. The game rewards drivers who learn the car and the road.
The mountain pass can be driven by day, at sunset or at night. Morning light through the cedars. Orange haze in the valley at dusk. Night runs after rain, under sodium lamps, with nothing but headlights in the fog. Tyre smoke is fully volumetric, so it rolls across the road, drifts with the wind and lights up behind you.
After a run, the replay system takes over. Roadside, chase and drone cameras use simulated lenses, focus and shake to make your best drift look like real footage.
Critical Drift is made by Tracedream Games, a one-person studio in Poland, using the Godot engine. It is coming to Steam on PC.
